We Matched Toy Story Characters to Taylor Swift Songs and Now We’re Emotional

Taylor Swift just broke the internet again.

This week she announced that she has written an original song called “I Knew It, I Knew You” for Toy Story 5. Us Swifties deserve an apology because we called this weeks ago. The countdowns, the color-coded outfits, the cryptic hints, the detective work that somehow always sounds unhinged until it turns out to be completely right – people have been connecting the dots for a while now.

Well, the dots have officially connected. Taylor is heading to Toy Story, the song arrives this Friday, and we are absolutely ready to hear what happens when one of the world’s biggest songwriters teams up with some of the most beloved characters in movie history.

Taylor shared the news on social media, saying she had always dreamed of writing for these characters and that she fell in love with the movie after seeing an early screening. The song drops this Friday, and suddenly Toy Story fans and Swifties have become one giant emotional support group while we all wait.

It’s a *Toy* Story 🤠

You knew it! My new original song “I Knew It, I Knew You” for Disney and Pixar‘s Toy Story 5 will be yours on June 5th. I’ve always dreamed of getting to write for these characters who I’ve adored since I was a 5 year old kid watching the first Toy Story movie. I fell instantly in love with Toy Story 5 when I was lucky enough to see it in its early stages, and I wrote this song as soon as I got home from the screening. Sometimes you just know, right?

So while we’re counting down to hear Taylor’s new song and see the next chapter of Woody, Buzz, and the gang, we started wondering something important:

If the Toy Story characters already had Taylor Swift songs, which ones would they be?

The answers ended up being surprisingly accurate.

Woody – “The Archer”

Nobody carries the emotional burden of an entire franchise quite like Woody.

He spends most of the movies trying to figure out who he is, where he belongs, and whether he’s still needed. One minute he’s confident and brave, the next he’s questioning everything.

“The Archer” captures that constant self-reflection perfectly. It’s a song about insecurity, loyalty, fear, and trying to hold on when everything around you is changing.

Honestly, Woody could have written half the lyrics himself.

Buzz Lightyear – “Mastermind”

Buzz arrives convinced he’s a real Space Ranger. Then he learns he’s a toy. Then he saves the day anyway.

That’s “Mastermind” energy.

The song is all about confidence, determination, and believing you can make things happen. Buzz always has a plan, even when the plan makes absolutely no sense.

He’s dramatic. He’s ambitious. He’s convinced he’s in control.

It’s a perfect match.

Jessie – “Shake It Off”

Nobody gets knocked down and gets back up again like Jessie.

After her heartbreaking backstory in Toy Story 2, she could easily have become bitter. Instead she chooses joy, adventure, and friendship.

“Shake It Off” feels like her anthem.

She knows life hurts sometimes, but she’s not staying stuck there.

Bo Peep – “Bejeweled”

The Bo Peep we met in later movies is not waiting around for anybody.

She left, reinvented herself, and became one of the coolest characters in the franchise.

“Bejeweled” is all about realizing your worth and refusing to shrink yourself for someone else’s comfort.

That is basically Bo Peep’s entire character arc.

Rex – “Anti-Hero”

It’s me. Hi. I’m the problem, it’s me.

Tell me that isn’t Rex.

The poor dinosaur spends every movie convinced he’s failing at everything. He worries constantly. He overthinks every situation. He assumes disaster is right around the corner.

Meanwhile everyone else loves him.

Rex is the walking embodiment of anxious self-awareness.

Hamm – “Blank Space”

Hamm always has something sarcastic to say.

Always.

He’s clever, slightly judgmental, and somehow manages to comment on every situation from the sidelines.

“Blank Space” captures that playful, witty, slightly chaotic energy perfectly.

You can practically hear Hamm delivering some of those lyrics with a smirk.

Slinky Dog – “You Belong With Me”

Slinky is the definition of loyal.

He supports Woody through everything, even when everyone else is doubting him.

If friendship had a mascot, it would be Slinky.

“You Belong With Me” isn’t just about romance. At its core it’s about standing by someone and believing in them when nobody else does.

That’s Slinky all over.

Mr. Potato Head – “Look What You Made Me Do”

Let’s be honest.

Mr. Potato Head is permanently one minor inconvenience away from starting an argument.

He loves his friends fiercely, but he also has absolutely no patience for nonsense.

The dramatic energy of “Look What You Made Me Do” feels tailor-made for him.

Especially when he’s missing an ear or an eyebrow.

Mrs. Potato Head – “The Man”

Mrs. Potato Head never gets enough credit.

She’s smart, capable, and usually the voice of reason when everyone else is losing their minds.

“The Man” feels like a fitting choice because she spends half the movies proving she’s just as competent as everyone else while making it look effortless.

Bullseye – “Fearless”

Bullseye doesn’t even talk and somehow still manages to steal scenes.

He’s brave, loyal, adventurous, and will literally launch himself into danger for his friends.

“Fearless” captures that energy perfectly.

No hesitation. No second guessing.

Just pure heart.

Forky – “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?”

Hear us out.

Forky spends his entire existence questioning why he exists.

Everyone keeps telling him he’s important while he’s desperately trying to throw himself into a trash can.

The existential confusion is off the charts.

While the song itself is much darker, the underlying theme of identity and struggling to understand your place in the world fits Forky surprisingly well.

Lotso – “Bad Blood”

This one was easy.

The betrayal. The grudges. The refusal to let things go.

Lotso built an entire personality around unresolved feelings.

If any Toy Story character was going to dramatically stare out a window while listening to “Bad Blood,” it’s him.

Andy – “Long Live”

There could only be one answer.

“Long Live” is a song about looking back on a meaningful chapter of your life and being grateful it happened.

That’s Andy’s relationship with his toys.

The ending of Toy Story 3 still makes grown adults cry because it’s about saying goodbye while appreciating everything that came before.

“Long Live” captures that feeling perfectly.

The Song We’re Most Curious About

Taylor said she wrote “I Knew It, I Knew You” immediately after watching an early screening of Toy Story 5.

Based on that title alone, we’re already preparing ourselves emotionally.

Because if there’s one thing both Taylor Swift and Toy Story excel at, it’s making people unexpectedly cry over fictional characters.

Whether the new song ends up being about friendship, growing up, letting go, finding your way home, or all of the above, we cannot wait to hear it.

Until then, we’ll be imagining Woody dramatically staring into the distance while “The Archer” plays in the background.

And honestly?

That feels pretty accurate.
