Although we no longer enjoy it, one of the benefits of being a New York City resident used to be free college tuition at the City University of New York — City College of New York, Hunter College, Brooklyn College, Queens College, Lehman College, and I may have forgotten one or two others. Leave it to a legislature and Republican mayors and governors to develop "other priorities." These days, tuition at the CUNY schools is still cheaper than private colleges, although, alas, no longer free.
But the point it, it has already been done, to the great benefit of the city's economy and its citizens. And it could happen everywhere ion America. Bernie's free tuition idea isn't new. It isn't radical. It isn't untested. It's solid old-fashioned conservative common sense, harkening to the days when America was, as Tony the Tiger and Donald would say, Grrrreat.
