Trump Cleared by Noted Scholar!

Tony Piel reports:

The Mueller Report is now available at your favorite bookstore as published by Skyhorse Publishing (2019). Liz and I purchased it at Barnes and Noble for $12, for the sole purpose of having access to the exact words and findings of the Mueller Report.

The only hesitancy I had about buying this particular book version of the Mueller Report was the fact that it is "introduced" by Alan Dershowitz, Felix Frankfurter Professor of Law Emeritus of the Harvard Law School. After the "Introduction," you have to go to page 38 to start the actual (if still "redacted") Mueller Report.

Why is this important ? Because the "average" reader will probably be snowed under by the legalistic language, detracting and misleading statements up front by Professor Dershowitz and by Trump's appointee Attorney General William Barr. How so ? The Dershowitz "Introduction" concludes quite simply:

"The report is a complete exoneration" of Donald Trump, and therefore "We should put the allegation to rest both as a legal and factual matter."

We all know, or should know by now, that this statement of "complete exoneration" by the Mueller Report is utterly false. If the casual reader swallows the Dershowitz "Introduction," then why bother to read the actual report, which begins on page 38 ? If Trump is completely exonerated, why read further?

Oddly, there is no mention of who put the book together. Who decided to give first place to Dershowitz, followed by Barr, before getting to what the Mueller team actually wrote ? Did some partisan group want to get the report out first, precisely to undercut it ? Does Dershowitz not read or speak plain English ? Too many lunches at Mar-a-Lago ? Would you want to send your child or grandchild to Harvard at the risk of being taught, judged and graded by the likes of Dershowitz? I don't think so.

LuanneM doesn't think so, Tony. Here's her comment on Amazon Books:

Absolutely fantastic, fair-minded introduction written by Alan Dershowitz. Granted, I am a fan of his career even though I have often disagreed with him. He is one of the great minds of the century, much like the incredible Charles Krauthammer.

Methinks we need to do a bit of work on the definition of "greatest minds."

The last paragraph in the downloadable Mueller report: As set forth in detail in this report, the Special Counsel's investigation established that Russia interfere~ in the 2016 presidential election principally through two operations. First, a Russian entity carried out a social media campaign that favored presidential candidate Donald J. Trump and disparaged presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Second, a Russian intelligence service conducted computer-intrusion operations against entities, employees, and volunteers working on the Clinton Campaign and then released stolen documents. The investigation also identified numerous links between the Russian government and the Trump Campaign. Although the investigation established that the Russian government perceived it would benefit from a Trump presidency and worked to secure that outcome, and that the Campaign expected it would benefit electorally from information stolen and released through Russian efforts, the investigation did not establish that members of the Trump Campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities."

You might remember when Nixon, under pressure, released an edited transcript of some of the tapes in a paperback “expletive deleted” version but did not turn over a more damaging group until SCOTUS so ordered. Barr's DOJ version of Mueller's report has a similar hint of reluctance to provide the public with The Whole Truth, (sez parionoid I) . I downloaded the .pdf file from their website, thinking I was getting the “official” document and while it may be, it seems calculated to keep casual, half-interested readers from delving into Vol 2, which is, among other things, a playbook for impeachment over obstruction – a legal brief replete with citations that will (could?) save Congress or future prosecutors much research. It also devastates anticipated defense arguments. Apparently the WH has been taking issue with any obstruction charges since 6/23/17. See Mueller footnote 1074: 6/ 23/ 17 Letter, President’s Personal Counsel to Special Counsel’s Office, at 1: “The President cannot obstruct... by simply exercising these inherent Constitutional powers.”. That's only 40 days after Mueller was appointed and probably hadn't put the wife's picture on his desk yet and 12 days after MSM first reported that Trump was under investigation for obstruction.
I find it suspicious that Vol II is not even listed in the main table of contents for the DOJ .pdf . To find Vol II you have to read or scroll all the way to page 200, where for some reason the page numbering begins afresh with 1. Much of Vol 1 is known facts and most of the last sections are redacted. I am proud of my hard -earned reading skills but I have not gone through Vol 1 and I doubt many have. And I suspect that very few congress-critters and MSM bobbleheads have delved into Vol II – much less Appendix C - which btw is not listed in the table of contents for Vol 2. Appendix C has all the written questions Trump was queried and also the answers he gave. Sad but interesting reading...
