Proud To Be An American Yet?
From The Guardian:
In November 2002, a suspected Afghan militant, Gul Rahman, died of hypothermia inside a CIA black site north of Kabul known as the Salt Pit. Rahman had been left in a cold cell, stripped from the waist down and had been doused in water, according to reports from the Associated Press.

The torture report contains more details on Rahman’s death, including details of the CIA’s interrogation methodology used. This included “48 hours of sleep deprivation, auditory overload, total darkness, isolation a cold shower and rough treatment”. The CIA Headquarters did not approve these methods in advance, the report says. But the day before Rahman’s death, one CIA officer ordered that Rahman be shackled to the wall of his cell and sat on the cold floor whilst naked from the waist down. CIA headquarters had approved the use of “enhanced measures” at this point.
The CIA officer who sent these instructions received no reprimand. Instead, four months later, he was given a $2,500 cash reward for his “consistently superior work”.
This CIA officer was lucky. If there had been photographs like in Abu Ghraib he would have taken the heat while his superiors (up to the president) will never be touched.
Outsourcing torture: It wasn't the CIA after all. They outsourced their torture program to Mitchell Jessen & Associates for 81 million dollars. What a great example for public-private partnership!
Just finished reading the report. It really makes you want to vomit.
But now I understeand: They all were just following orders ... no harm done.
I'm so bloody angry. It's one thing to know something very bad had to have happened and another one to read it in cold print. Your political class, including President Obama, are defending themselves just like Hermann Goering did at the Nuremberg trials. Shame on your country. You elected these people in cold blood.
At least the Nazis never had a majority in Germany as long as there were free elections.
Sorry, folks. I didn't want to say all Americans were Nazis. But all Americans should start to think about it. A once good friend of mine, now a famous American neurosurgeon, cut off any contact after I dared to criticize George W. Bush in an email. Start to think, John! Please!
I've known about a great deal of this for a long time. What has me grinding enamel off my teeth is how the same old lies (We don't torture!) out again as if repeating them makes it more true. George Tennant should be in shit to his nostrils to see how calling it apple butter improves the smell!
