A 19th Century Statesman
Secretary of State John Kerry on Meet the Press yesterday:
Well, we’re now discussing all of the options. This is an act of aggression that is completely trumped up in terms of its pretext. It’s really 19th-century behavior in the 21st century, and there’s no way to start with that if Russia persists in this, that the G8 countries are going to reassemble in Sochi … And the reason for this, David, is because you just don’t invade another country on phony pretext in order to assert your interests.

Yeah, wasn't that special? I read that last night and was pretty sure my blood pressure doubled. So, I had to snark about it because either we are rank hypocrites or we have, as the Rude Pundit said the memory-power of a "hamster on meth."
What ever happened to that Vietnam vet who threw medals over a fence at the Capitol during that antiwar demonstration? Come back, John, we need you.
This is a fair enough point. However by the end of the 2004 campaign, Kerry was clearly anti-war, unlike the stance even as late as 2008 by some other recent Secretaries of State one could name.
