We’re Just Not That Into Ourselves

Did you know that Monday is the most popular day worldwide to access internet porn? Or so it appears based on data gathered by Pornhub, a UK site whose statistics were published in the Guardian. Except in Japan, where Saturday is more popular.

The Guardian has a number of interesting details from the statistics, but here’s a good summary: a diagram showing the three most popular search terms at Pornhub for nine countries, a truly fascinating collection. We Americans show far more cosmopolitanism than we’re generally given credit for, being the only country where the most popular term for a search engine that finds nothing but porn is something other than the nationality itself. Apparently everyone else finds themselves indescribably hot, while we’re into teenagers.

Personally, I think it might be more of a problem of many Americans, or perhaps American corporations and their contractors, being more likely to start down the bedeviled path of accusing each other of being interested in porn when in fact, it's something else entirely. As proof, I offer up blog post by Neddie Jingo outlining his problem of being accused by Google of running a pornographic blog.

As far as I've been able to determine, even though perhaps occasionally Neddie was known using some rather intemperate and controversial language to describe the world as it exists (but which Neddie probably needs to do to get his point across), which is one of the reasons one visited the blog "By Neddie "Jingo" in the olden days (except to get interpretations for Hobo signs), especially before Neddie posted so irregularly as he does now. Neddie's blog is was, before Geraldo, run as a clean wholesome blog, much more so than other language artists might have done, such as Henry Miller or Gershon Legman. Yet look at that label Google put on Neddie!

I think we American's need to get over ourselves. Perhaps a good place to start would be to start reading some of Neddies' NSA and related jokes!

The reason is simple: The USA has the biggest porn industry by far, so Americans know they'll find fucking Americans on pornhub.com anyway.

Intellectual curiosity led me to google a few of these. Lisa Ann, a favorite in both Great Britain and Mexico, is a porno star. So is Sara Tommasi (Italy). Beurette is French slang for young North African girls. No great surprises so far. But what's with Brits and lesbians, and this anal thing Brazilians have?
