Tailgunner Ted

Here’s the GOP’s Messiah of the Month, Senator Ted Cruz, remembering grim times at Harvard Law School from 1992 to 1995:

“There were fewer declared Republicans in the faculty when we were there than Communists! There was one Republican. But there were twelve who would say they were Marxists who believed in the Communists overthrowing the United States government.”

OMG, back then I used to walk past the law school every day on my way to work! Innocent me, I never dreamed there was a Republican inside.

A young Italian voter yesterday said he was going to vote for Berlusconi, because his father had told him otherwise the communists would ruin Italy. When asked: which communists? he just couldn't tell.

Notice his syntax. He didn't say the faculty actually were communists. In his opinion, they were people "who would say they were Marxists." Did they say it? Surely not, or Cruz would be able to quote names and dates.

This is not only guilt by baseless implication but also a sign of the desperation of the Republican party – increasingly out of touch, out of synch, and out of their minds.

Very crankily yours,
