Donít Eat My Dog, Bro

Culinary notes from Cambodia:

A 25-year-old man who ate his hunting partnerís dog after it was killed in a monkey attack was shot dead by the canineís owner with a crossbow last Tuesday. Police said the suspect and the victim were friends who were hunting together in Kratieís Snuol district. It is understood the suspect shot his friend because he would not help save his dog from being killed in a monkey attack. The victim then took the dead dog home to eat. When the suspect saw this, he fired his crossbow at his friend killing him instantly. Police say the suspect confessed to the crime following his arrest.

So, did anybody take the dead guy home to eat? Shame to waste all that protein.

Reminds me of a picture from a Chinese restaurant on James Fallows site a while back. Had a hen, a cow, a pig, various other things we consider edible and then a friendly picture of a smiling dog and a cat.

That still didn't beat the Chinese meat shop shown in National Geographic 20 years ago. Hanging in the window behind glass were whole dried rats. I'm sure those who have been to Laos and such could tell us more.
