America at its Extremes

This is from a Measure of America report which contains, along with a whole raft of other things you didnít know, the following:

Rankings by state, for each major racial and ethnic group, on the American Human Development Index. The index reveals that the starkest disparities in well-being fall not between blacks and whites, but between Native Americans and Asian Americans. Asian Americans as a group top the rankings, with Asian Americans in New Jersey coming in at number one. If current trends continue, it will take Native Americans in South Dakota an entire century to catch up with where New Jersey Asian Americans are now in terms of life expectancy, educational enrollment and attainment, and median earnings.

A small and tasty practical suggestion that is anecdotal and won't fix anything big-picture but still:

Tanka Bars, made of entirely crud-free buffalo and cranberries from the Pine Ridge reservation. I have dietary issues and they're about the only packaged dried meat product I can eat. Just reordered before seeing this item. All kinds of economic-development talk on the Web site. Yeah, "economic development" sometimes means profit for elites, and how do I know cui bono, but we can hope, and the bars are great for travel and packed lunches. See www.tankabar.com or look at your local REI.
