Which Republican Politician was That Possum

From the McClatchy chain newspaper in South Carolina, The State, there appears at the beginning of a story in the paper the description of what is often a rather normal set of circumstances in that state in the quoted section below.

With politicians like Mark Sanford leading the state there, one just has to wonder about the question posed in the headline above. Fortunately Columbia SC, the state capital has a Democratic Mayor, but with all the Republican possums ambling about, one does have to wonder how the residents manage to avoid the nasty creatures:

Robbie Robertson had a good meal, steak and wine, at a downtown restaurant not long ago. As he walked outside, he was struck by a proud feeling that Columbia has become a good city, active and social and beautiful. Then a possum ambled across the parking lot.

We are all God's creatures, even Mark Sanford. May She who created the world grant us the mercy to love the sinner even as we love the sin.

As a life-long fan of Pogo and friends, I resent the implication that an opossum has any connection with a repuglican.

Oh no Mr. Gall, the possums in South Carolina are of a completely different ideology than the possums in the Pogo world. The one's that I'm speaking of that are generally seen in the city of Columbia SC are mean, selfish and only work for the richest possums on the planet.

Pogo's possum community is a completely different group altogether, they're loving, kind sharing and always willing to help others but the South Carolina genus, of which not all SC possums belong, are mean spirited and nasty, are racist and belong to the party of Dr. No (you remember the James Bond movies now, don't you) and you can't compare the two ideological species of possums we're talking about here. The SC possums we are speaking of that are the evil creatures are scientifically related to the species of Elephantidae.

When you see one in the city of Columbia SC though, you can pretty much bet that he's not one of the possums of the world of Pogo unless you see him pictured in the comic strips. The genus Republcanisopossum Elephantidaeis generally found in the newspaper stories where they genearally are engaged in philandering or self righteousness or saying evil things about the good species of possums of Pogo which have ties to genus Equus.

The SC genus that are most common around the Capitol building in that state are generally diseases carrying and are fundamentally rabid and dangerous creatures to all of humanity.

I somewhat reluctantly accept your clarification but offer the suggestion that you perhaps have made an unintended alliterative error in that you might have meant "pissant" instead of "possum"?

The Republicans are famous for putting on a masquerade as "good old country" boys and girls, so maybe you have something there. These "possums" could be dressed up rats, posers in fact, and what may look like a political possum might actually be a political rat with a disguise on to make him look like a responsible member of the Pogo world. But whatever they are, I'm not fooled. But ants, no, that's too much makeup for these creatures to handle. And rat bites are just as nasty as even a fire ant's bite, maybe more so.
