I’m quick enough to slam trigger-happy cops, of whom there are plenty. But as an old police reporter myself, I also know that a good cop is one of God’s finest works. Here’s a story out of Sacramento about two of them.

We need more like these guys and more articles from the papers about the good that our law enforcement agencies often engage in. As an old hand at cross examining many cases on behalf of clients in, let's say for instance, a preliminary hearing, often in a way that would please my clients but not too many other folks, I'd often see the dark side, where the need for sticking together for the sake of another officer sometimes outweighed the quest for truth. But I saw departments work to clean themselves up as well and that could be gratifying. The culture of place often determines the extent that we might see such kinds of laudatory behavior. Change the culture of the organization and sometimes you can change the negative behavior in such a way that something really good comes out of that.
It's nice to see a homeless woman given the protection of the laws against a homeless man for once. It's unusual. So unusual it makes this a Man Bites Dog story.
