A Rorschach Test

Brady Bonk posted the picture below on Ketchup is a Vegetable, where at first glance I took it for satire. Sadly, no. A little Googling showed that it circulates principally on the hard right side of the blogosphere, as an exercise in nostalgia whose implied subtext is, ďAre you morans happy now?Ē

But no matter how hard I look, I canít see anything but rich white trash ó a spoiled, smug, aging brat indistinguishable from a dozen other WASPs I grew up with. How else can that smirk be read?

Evidently as the portrait of a towering yet folksy leader tragically taken from the nation by an ill-considered constitutional amendment. No doubt the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

As usual, though, it doesnít. Iím right.

You got me knowdoubt. If that happened, I'd never pine for the good old days. But I want him on America's Most Wanted and want to see the frog marches as they ultimately lead to the International Criminal Court and then some nice European solitary cell. Or better yet, let him bunk with Cheney. I hear those two aren't getting along these days.
