Mindless Wasteland?

Hereís a post by Papa Bonk on Ketchup is a Vegetable. What think?

Benito Mussolini and Adolpf Hitler both came to power with the aid of hoodlums and thugs who showed up at political rallies, shouted down the speakers and beat up opposition leaders. As time went by, normal citizens learned to stay out of their way and shut up.

Politics by thuggery is a defining element of facism. Thatís what the GOOP and the health care industry is practicing now in an attempt to derail real reform in health insurance. We are seeing it in town hall meetings held by Democratic Party leaders across the country. Hordes of unkempt, illiterate dumbasses shout down other speakers and drown out debate, the threat of violence simmering just below the surface. Their whole game is to disrupt and delay the health care agenda and ultimately defeat President Obama by forcing a failure on his most important policy objective.

Wiser heads tell us that we can use this behavior to our advantage. It demonstrates the true colors of the opposition, it is said, and will ultimately turn public opinion in our favor. I am sure the people in the choir believe that. I am not so certain.

There is a frightened, mindless wasteland out there. A landscape of uneducated clerks and real estate agents and shoe salespersons and Mary Kaye clients. They are frightened as sheep, and easily stampeded. A show of force, a hint of instability, a suspicion that the President of the United States may not be one of us after all, may be all it takes to return us the nightmare days of Busch GOOP leadership.

Itís a dangerous game and should not be taken lightly. I am very happy to allow the public relations boys and the political experts to take on this threat and solve it by peaceable means. But I think it shows us graphically why it is that liberals should forget about gun control and learn something about guns.

These nutters if conditions came together are capable of killing us at will for their cause. They are truly brainwashed.

We are far more powerful than that, if we do not allow ourselves to be intimidated.

Personally, I think that as a nation we're far too fat for fascism. I've slimmed down considerably and could manage some goose stepping, but Jerry would ridicule me. So that's out.

If you take a look at the demographics of the potential thugs, they become considerably less scary; college Republicans, whose appetite for violence is informed by a conviction that it should outsourced to anyone but them; UFO abductees from the Heritage Foundation's tax protest collective; Freepers, who are more likely to shoot themselves and each other when they pick up guns; Protest Warriors and Swift Boat cranks, who get attacked by nasty internet comments from the Freepers, who mistake them for liberals; the upper middle class right wing bloggers, who have gone Galt by leaving inadequate tips in restaurants; Birthers, who are chasing counterfeit birth certificates made by hoaxers out for a laugh; insane billionaire shut-ins, who get what they need by funding pseudo-intellectuals and crackpots. Etc. etc.

The psychotic gunmen who perform spree killings are unable to organize. The militia nutters can organize, but they always fall out over peculation and jurisdictional squabbles. I can see a lot of organized right wing middle class bad behavior in the form of heckling and vandalism, but that's about it.

I'm in the great red South and I wish it was just intimidation, but these MF's will kill you. I damn near got killed campaigning for Obama, not that I thought he was going to be any better than he has turned out to be just, that I thought the country probably couldn't survive another four years of wingnuttery. I couldn't even get the police to show up to make a report. This violence and threats of violence was going on during the primaries if you remember at the repugnutin rallies and McCain-Palin did precious little to deter it, nobody really wanted to address it as a "problem" then as now because, after all, that IS the party of the right... the party of hate, without which they don't have a party.

You make a valid point, Jerome.
And Jim, you disparage and ignore the weapon skills of the rabid right at your peril. These people have been handling guns for generations - many start about the time they start loosing their baby teeth.
And if you depend on law enforcement for your security, I fear you will learn that a large percentage of them are the rabid right. You might want to seriously consider buying more ammunition.

I'm taking this lightly because it looks exactly the same as wingnut behavior in every Democratic administration. They scream and wail about socialism, One World Gubmint, forced gay marriage, buttfucking, moral decline, darkies and Jews. They heckle at town halls and join astroturf campaigns. They slobber and fulminate in barely coherent letters to the editor. An imperial adventure goes sour and they scream and wail about Armageddon. The level of real wingnut thuggery remains constant under any administration. They're always making death threats, committing acts of vandalism and scaring people. This is not new. They're always in hysterics. Once it becomes bad for business, the more aggressive useful idiots will see their funding dry up. Meanwhile they're useful in terrifying liberals, who are useful in being terrified.

As the Iraq occupation and Obama's fiasco in Afghanistan wind down, there will in all likelihood be a couple of spectacular domestic terrorism incidents -- just like there were in the Clinton administration. Meanwhile, bipartisanship will funnel money into the pockets of the people organizing the astroturf campaigns.

It's business as usual. In the next Republican administration, liberals will give vent to dark speculations about a coup and predict that the wingnut Mouthbreather in Chief will cancel elections under martial law.

Jerome says,
But I think it shows us graphically why it is that liberals should forget about gun control and learn something about guns.
I think he's right.
