A Video Portrait of Hate in America

Hitler couldn’t have had supporters any better than these. Frank Rich described the problem we have in America in his op-ed in today’s New York Times. If we continue on the present course, we are doomed. Perhaps it is already to late to stop the inevitable fall of the nation we once could treasure. My own parents turned into haters like these. I blame it on Rupert because I saw how his Fox News Channel caused my parents to become haters exactly like these. Prior to Fox News, I had only seen this briefly in my father, who was not only a WWII veteran, but a sucker for any kind of propaganda that the military industrial complex created. The last years of his life were filled with the kind of mean, vicious hatred that you see in this video. What a sad way that it was for him to go the way that he did.

This is interesting. The big newspaper in Lehigh Valley, Morning Call, has run several careful polls. The latest shows Obama leading by 13 points. That's not to say there are not plenty of bigots and assholes there. But, in general, the valley is Democratic and apparently quite pro-Obama. Yet I still fear the hatred, and for Obama's life. Ours is a violent, racist society, no question about it. If he wins, it will be a miracle.

I could say the same about my family. My father died in
Sept, and all to this rage , hatred and anti-intellectual
propaganda has made him unrecognizable as the joking,
laughing, upbeat, half-full glass kind of guy he was in
50s and the 60s. Hell, even into the 70s. I credit FOX
propaganda, too much alcohol and a hell-on-wheels
alcoholic second wife, plus probable PTSD from WWII --
all added up to his transformation. Half my siblings
followed. Yeah it makes me sad to see that video. Might
as well be my own kin. Disgusting.

Bill, I think there are groups of these folks from sea to shining sea. The working crowd that supports McCain doesn't seem to have much presence at this event; they are the ones who listen to talk radio in their cars and trucks all day. They have no idea who owns talk radio.

These older folks are probably the Fox News junkies. Personally I think these stations and channels are dangerously shouting fire in a crowded theater we live in an armed madhouse. I don't know how to reign the executives who run those shows in and make them do what's best for the country.

Joe Bageant says the Scotch Irish make up a large part of this crowd of haters. I would differ regarding this Pennsylvania crowd. I think we're dealing with "good Germans" here, a different bloodline. But much of it is learned and genes have nothing to do with it.

I'm afraid that this will eventually end up with large groups of Americans having to visit their own concentration camps and ovens and be forced to help the dead and dying.

Maybe we're getting a form of that now in financial retribution.

Amd Beth, my father was a kind generous jovial man until he got started on the subject of Democrats. Fox News and talk radio did that to him. Someone should bring some lawsuits claiming they had to be deprogrammed from Fox News propaganda and make Fox pay the bill. Because they are a cult like organization. There are plenty of their former employees who will testify as to their methods of promoting the cult among the innocent and unsuspecting.
