Poor Things

Who knew it was possible to hurt the oil industry’s feelings? Well, it is:

A Barack Obama ad ready to air at Florida gas stations that have pumps topped with TV screens was nixed at the last minute because the advertising company's chief said it reflected poorly on the oil industry, according to the presidential candidate's campaign…

Personally I think we're going to have those screens everywhere in the future, to be used as advertisement tools. But I cringe when I hear that some of them, in large cities, have feature and facial recognition features so that ads can be targeted to the very people who walk by.

That's just a small step from a an Orwell 1984 world, when they become interactive and can not only show you an ad, but take your picture, video record you and send the image to an offsite location, and "see" you when you walk by.

I've got this little $110.00 Flip video camera and it has amazing features packed into it. The abiltiy to do "frame by frame" photo snapshots is an incredible (and fun if you want to catch weird facial expressions when people emote) And it's only the beginning of the technogloy. The only consolation is that I can take their picture too, and that technology, of somewhat lesser quality, in cell phones has so far caught many instances of police brutality.

Any mention of the oil companies reflects poorly on them. We're supposed to forget they're there. Government is the problem, right?
