For Obamaís To-Do List

From an article on Sven Lindqvist, a fascinating Swedish writer Iíve just discovered:

Lindqvist is no longer such a lustful traveller as he once was, and he lives quietly today in an apartment in a leafy square of central Stockholm, with his second wife, Agneta Stark, a distinguished economist. He is the fortunate beneficiary of a rather wonderful, typically Swedish, form of state bursary, whereby 150 of the countryís greatest artists and musicians, writers and poets are each guaranteed that if their annual income from their work falls below that of a metal worker, it will be topped up by the state. ďIf itís Ingmar Bergman,Ē he says with a grin, ďhe wonít need to use it very often, but Iíve found it rather useful; for many poets, itís their main source of income.Ē

Poets? Artists? Damned lay-abouts. Why don't they go out and start a hedge fund or something?
