How disgusting. How sad. And how predictable. National Socialist, Moslem, or Orthodox Jew, a zealot is a zealot:
Messianic Jews in Israel say they want an inquiry into the burning of hundreds of copies of the New Testament by Orthodox Jews in Or Yehuda last week. The books were given to the town’s Ethiopian Jews by the Messianic Jews, who believe in Jesus as a saviour.
Or Yehuda’s deputy mayor says he received complaints about the books, and arranged for them to be burnt…

Not okay.
Posted by: Michael on May 21, 2008 8:53 PMInteresting... I've had a (rather unpleasant) run-in with a "Messianic Jew" (a racial, religious and homophobic bigot through and through), a cult that with holding christ to be the messiah places greater emphasis upon the tenants of old testaments - rape, incest, genocide.
Yeah not right - burn the whole thing.
Posted by: Ten Bears on May 21, 2008 10:24 PMTen Bears, if you're gonna start burning religious books, i've got a dumpster full of L. Ron Hubbard for ya.
Posted by: r@d@r on May 22, 2008 10:58 AMYes, Ten Bears, someone was giving away a complete series of Left Behind books on Freecycle. You could keep yourself warm all winter by burning these in your fireplace.
But I like Jehovah's Witnesses better. Polite, capable of discussing religious issues, not robotic or deceptive.
Posted by: Joyful Alternative on May 22, 2008 11:34 AMI'm sure of the implications here, but there was a time when L.Ron was a passable scifi writer, though his other crap is just that: crap. As for the Left Behind crap, all I've seen of it is down at Slacktivists' place and, quite frankly, I've read better science fiction. So too the Bible.
I'm not an advocate of burning books, but if the Talamund, Koran and Bible are of any value at all they are as a documentation of a group of people's ten thousand year refusal to get along with each other, or anyone else. The Jew/Muslim/Christian cult are the worst thing to have ever happened to this world.
Animals, bow down to gods; Human Beings, do not.
