What Would Jesus Say?

Today’s text is taken from the spoken word of Clarence Jordan, one of the finest and bravest Christian gentlemen the South ever produced.

Jordan, a wealthy lawyer who gave up the law to found Koinonia Farm, would walk into a rich man’s house and say, “Nice piece of plunder you’ve got here.”

Behind every great fortune is a great crime, and all that.

We need a new translation to properly convey our perceptions of American Hispanics.

If you are interested in more history and current information about Koinonia Farm and Habitat for Humanity International, please access www.briarsdocumentary.com/overview.html and www.biocritics.org/archives/2008/02/09/201222.php.

"Briars in the Cotton Patch" is an exceptional documentary utilizing rare footage of actual moments of violence Clarence Jordan and the biracial community of Koinonia Farm endured, survived and overcame in the 1950s in segregated south Georgia.

"The House the Love Built", by Bettie B. Youngs, is the basis of a film in process, which we all might have an opportunity to see later this year. It is the story of the founding of Habitat for Humanity International by Millard and Linda Fuller in south Georgia in 1976 and their subsequent establishment of Habitat Affiliates throughout the USA and more than 80 other nations around the globe.

It is also the story of the firing of the Fullers in 2005 by the Habitat board in order to convert the international ministry from an all funds go to the purpose of providing housing to those in need to a corporation used to pay high executive salaries and provide international contacts for board members. The firing was led by chairman of the board, nicolas retsinas (Beware readers, if you have children at Harvard Law School who are being "taught" by this "distinguished professor".).

The attempt to bribe both of the Fullers with a typically outrageous ceo corporate-style sum of money as a departure package failed. Then the board dispatched a hatchetman, paul leonard, to the headquarters office to intimidate the Fullers to resign by creating vicious rumors about Millard with unsubstantiated accusations of inappropriate behaviour with a female employee.

After failure of both of these attempts, the board flexed its' muscles and fired the Fullers.

However, these two fantastic human beings sought the high ground and founded The Fuller Center, again in the same smalltown south Georgia to continue the mission that had prevailed at Habitat during the 30 years of their leadership.
