Queen Anne's lace, also called wild carrots. Prettier than most of the flowers people spend a lot of money on.

Actually, no. It's Cow Parsley or Cow Parsnip, depending on which guide you read. Latin name Heracleum lanatum. It's a huge plant. This one was some eight feet high. The large, flat clusters are the size of a pie plate. Cow parsley looks like something out of the rain forest, but it's native. I spotted a small colony of them along the Housatonic Railroad right-of-way years ago, and thought they must be some escaped exotic. I dug a couple up and transplanted them to the hill behind the house. They caught on and flowered a couple of years later, and have now seeded themselves all over the place. The original mother colony has since died out, and I've only seen one other specimen apart from my patch. Deer ate that one to the ground and it never came back. Have no idea why they're not all over the place, since they're incredibly hardy and spread easily. Anybody interested can email me for seeds, although you'll have to wait till next fall as this year's harvest has already scattered.
