Wow, is Ted Stevens ever screwed!
The FBI, working with an Alaska oil contractor, secretly taped telephone calls with Sen. Ted Stevens as part of a public corruption sting, according to people close to the investigation.[…]
The recorded calls between Stevens and businessman Bill Allen were confirmed by two people close to the case who spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation is still under way. They declined to say how many calls were recorded or what was said.
Allen, a wealthy businessman and Stevens’ political patron, agreed to the taping last year after authorities confronted him with evidence he had bribed Alaska lawmakers. He pleaded guilty to bribery and is a key witness against Alaska legislators. He also has told prosecutors he paid his employees to renovate the senator’s house.
Senator Bridge to Nowhere seems to be headed on a cruise in that direction career-wise, with arrival estimated in the very near future. Other than Mitch McConnell, I can’t think of anyone I’d be happier to see leave the Senate.
Of course everyone knows about his internet-as-tubes metaphor, but you might not realize how truly hilarious the context was. I recommend this two-minute clip if you need a laugh; personally, I was pounding the table.
Hey, the idiots deserve representation in the Senate.
Stevens is not as bad, truly bad, as McConnell, because McConnell is more effective. But McConnell has the grace, the Southern courtesy, to be well and truly bought, and to make no bones about it. You can work with him because he’s such a reliable sleezeball.
Stevens, on the other hand, is famous for his tantrums, a two-year-old’s classic response. No one claims he’s easy to work with, or a uniter instead of a divider, or a reacher across the aisle. Not a bit of it; he’s an Alaskan version of Jim Inhofe with a tremendous capacity for dramatic anger.
So now that it looks like he’s on his way out, all I can say is, So long, wish we hadn’t known you as well…

Well, it will be interesting what the FBI has on tape with Stevens. I hope he's not tapping his foot to have sex with the agent! That would be embarrassing for him, more so, than all his other charges. LOL
