Song for My Country

Let's start the week with something uplifting as well as depressing.

Thanks to reader Vierotchka for introducing me to the French version of YouTube, aptly named Daily Motion. As usual, the French do things better as you will see and hear in the quality of the video and audio below. It doesn't hurt that the lyrics are accompanied by the music of my favorite classical composer, Joaquin Rodrigo. Since Mrs. Batard and I are getting along just fine, thank you, this song must be about the love I’ve managed to lose over the last seven years, the love for my country. Thanks to George and Dick and their merry minions. At least the lyrics offer a glimmer of hope.

Aranjuez mon amour

If you pronounce "Daily Motion" in French, it sounds a little like "About emotion" in French. Probably only to a foreign speaker like me, but I found it a nice touch.

Quelle plaisir! Merci beaucoup. Moi aussi, j'aime Rodrigo.

It was especially therapeutic, having just finished hearing the "distinguished" president of Iran's speech and Q and A at Columbia University.

I was extremely "impressed" with his statement of ardent devotion to science and its' requirement of continuous RESEARCH, specifically dealing with the reality of the Holocaust.

Then, later, in response to a question, he firmly DENIED the existence of homosexuality in Iran.

Uhhmmmm, I wonder if he MIGHT be willing to add that to his research list, as well.
