Kids, Do You Know Where Your Parents Are?

Surgeon and New York Times guest columnist Atul Gawande, coming to you linkless from behind the paperís pay-to-play wall:

Pregnancies at age 15 to 17 are down 35 percent since 1995, according to federal data; one-fourth of the drop is from delaying sex, and three-fourths is from increased use of contraceptives. Today, just seven percent of abortions occur in minors.

Fact two follows from this: Abortion is mainly an adult problem. Forty-five percent of abortions occur in adults ages 18 to 24; 48 percent occur after age 25. Most are in women who have already had a child. The kids are all right. We are the issue.

Interesting.......when I was Press Secretary for a Minister FOR Health in 1983 in Australia, I wrote and sent out press releases he felt were extremely important to publicize immediately locations of condom machines, especially those accessible to students. He based this on our information directly obtained from the CDC in the USA about AIDS and the potential it had as a worldwide health problem. It took about ten more years for the same information to become available to the American public.

Yes, America, abstinence among youth is not nearly as effective as prevention of side effects.
