The Usenet Streetscape

Anyone remember when Usenet was all there was?

Sao Paolo is taking it to the streets.

My God, if this thing goes viral it could mean the end of the world as we know it! Anybody remember Ogden Nash? "I think that I shall never see/A billboard lovely as a tree./In fact unless the billboards fall/I'll never see a tree at all."

Someone will figure out how to integrate a digital billboard into solar panels that not only lights up, but delivers electricity to the grid. Then you will be able to see "See Rock City" on barns and houses everywhere, and everyone will be happy again.

I remember when Fidonet was all there was. Until I upgraded to ECHONet. Then there was SLIP, and Cello. Mosaic. Mozilla. Well, Mozilla survived, since I'm using Firefox now.

Now I'm wondering if many people will remember before there were blogs, and Wikipedia. We're the government now.
