From the Millersburg (PA) Sentinel, April 1907:

"Hereafter a cat will be found in every station along the Pennsylvania Railroad Company. Orders have been received to that effect as to prevent rats from destroying baggage and foods in transit. At least one cat must hereafter be kept at every station."
