Read this story. Now these questions:
Is there any hope for a country which tolerates a criminal justice system as dull, arbitrary, vicious and unjust as ours? With our complicity at best and our mindless encouragement at worst, our elected leaders have constructed a machinery of repression as savage in its measured, methodical, self-satisfied and completely legal way as anything Joe Stalin ever dreamed of.
We are a nation of laws, yes — but what laws! Consider our Old Testament criminal code, written by and for our nation’s Pharisee majority. Look at the monstrous gulag we have tucked away in rural corners of our “Christian Nation.” Now ask yourselves, Christians, honestly for just this once: What Would Jesus Really Do? Vomit, that’s what.
Jesus? Wasn't that the guy who threw the money-lenders out of the temple?
Posted by: Peter on March 14, 2007 2:23 PMFlorida? Isn't that where Rush Limbaugh had his drug problem? Will he be doing more than 25 years because he got more unprescribed meds?
Posted by: Joyful Alternative on March 14, 2007 4:15 PMExactly so, Joyful. If I remember right, even the drug was the same. But Rush (again, if memory serves) was taking it to relieve the pain of the anal cyst that kept him from killing Cong when his generation's war came along. Actually he's got another chance now. The army seems to be taking people his age. Basically, it now takes anybody with a pulse.

If there were more like you... maybe.
Posted by: Thomas Ware on March 14, 2007 9:34 PMNot so fast. Isn't this the same legal system that has found so many of our local GOP perverts guilty here in Pennsylvania ?
Posted by: Bill Doolittle on March 15, 2007 6:00 AMUnfortunately, Thomas, there is only one like me. I have been looking for another for years, expecting that he would become my real friend in place of the imaginary one for whom I have thus far had to settle. My search is for someone who would stretch the language unmercifully to avoid ending a sentence with a preposition, in the hope that readers would find this amusing. Well?
