Very nice. For a slightly different take on this wonderful piece of music, try to find Jim Hall's album, "Concierto." It features a 19-minute plus rendition that also features Chet Baker and Paul Desmond. (Hint: I found it on Napster.)

Thanks for the tip. My favorite performance of this piece is tucked away in a box of LP's and I can't find it right now. It was recorded sometime in the 1960's or early 1970's. I'm going to buy it on CD when I find the album, although that performance of it is my all time favorite. I'll also try to find the other work you mentioned online, although I'm not a Napster user so I may just buy the album.

For those not familiar with this work, the composer was Joaquín Rodrigo, a Spanish musician who wrote the piece in 1939 while in Paris. Wikipedia tells me that "Some say that the second movement was inspired by the bombing of Guernica which happened in 1937". There are several more movements to this work.
Another favorite of mine from Rodrigo is "Fantasia para un gentlehombre".

I'm not sure if Rodrigo was political, but the World Socialist Web Site has his obituary online.

At any rate, it is rare to find a female guitarist performing this work, and Xuefei Yang is quite obviously a very gifted guitarist.

What a wonderful way to read a blog: listening to that was grand. Mood lifting.
