In Darfur, over 200,000 people have been killed from ethnic cleansing, a horrific tragedy. Many people think the United States should go in and clean up this mess. But, wait, we went into Iraq, in part, because of the horrific acts of murder that Saddam engaged in. According to a recent study, over 655,000 Iraqis have been killed since we entered the country.
Perhaps, just perhaps, we should stay out of Darfur. They’ve had enough misery already.
i read this crazy science fiction story once in which there was this organization with the highly unlikely title of The United Nations, that represented client nations that had signed their charter, and would go around to the various hot spots of the world and attempt to wage diplomacy between parties, and when given permission provide security and attempt to keep a lid on conflicts conflagrating into full-out war, or taking too high a toll on the civilian population. sounds kind of like a neat idea, but i guess it would never work.
