Of course, the saddest thing about the anniversary is that five years on, because of a lack of wisdom in our leadership, and because our immature and unready leaders were so cowed and scared by the attacks, we have yet to launch an effective war on terror. Still, the big, bold, uncowed and adult part of America lives on and indeed grows, and if we can re-take some of the levers of government in either in two months or in two years and two months, it is possible that the weakening of America can yet be slowed and perhaps reversed.
While the message that Bush needs to be replaced for the simple reason that he sucks at fighting terrorism is finally gaining some currency in the broader world, it has been pounded on this site for years and years. A retrospective of old posts about about how bad Bush is at fighting terrorism, and what a real war on terror might look like, is here and here and here and here.
What a salute it would be to our honored dead to avenge their loss by actually starting to fight back in a way that both can win and spread freedom.
