Those Mississippians who are not actually proud of their state’s legendary backwardness are apt to say, when the subject comes up, “Thank God for Alabama.” In the same spirit, all Americans will be proud to learn that the Turks, it appears, are even dumber than us.
This may only be a sign that Turkey has joined the Progressive movement:
In December 2005, Bobby Henderson received a reported USD $80,000 advance to pen The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. According to the author, he plans to use the proceeds from the sale of the book to build a pirate ship, with which he may travel the world in order to convert heathens to the Pastafarian religion.
See: The story of the Flying Spaghetti Monster
How do we know the pirate ship didn’t make it’s first port of call to Istanbul to enlighten the non-religious, thereby skewing the results.
Turkey may indeed be more progressive than the United States.
Things are not always as they appear as at first glance.
Time marches on.

Posted by: Peter on August 16, 2006 6:07 AMOnce Catholics got over Galileo, they came along pretty fast. In my Catholic high school biology classes we didn't have regular textbooks because we were using the new evolution-based BSCS.
And that was about 40 years ago.
