A Message From a Friend of Karl’s

Part of the left blogosphere is buzzing with news of the impending indictment of Karl Rove, largely based on reporting from Jason Leopold. As most of the other blogs have, I’ve been hesistant to post anything on this subject since no one wants to jump to an early conclusion based on one reporter’s allegations, particularly in light of Karl Rove’s long history of planting false news stories. However, someone who styles himself as a friend of Karl Rove, Bill Israel, is reporting over at Editor and Publisher:

My friend and former colleague Karl Rove may soon be indicted, and the question for journalists, citizens and those who care about him and/or the country is why we’re in this mess in the first place.

I would note that Israel’s original article, published May 8, did not have this italicized headline. If Bill Israel is truly a friend of Karl’s, I think we can safely conclude that time is running out for Karl.

Bill Israel appears [in his story on Rove] to be not a friend of the George Bush administration.

Indeed. I think Israel is probably trying to say to Karl, "I'm not your enemy." He doesn't seem to be friendly to Karl.

On the other hand, everything that Jason Leopold has reported on this topic has come true, though not always in the time frame he suggested. He does seem to be the lead reporter on this story.
