Still no government in Iraq. Don’t these people have Supreme Court justices with the wisdom and learning to appoint a government regardless of election results? (Mind you, without setting a precedent for other cases.)
Savages.

Apparently they don't. Unlike the Italians who took the US 2000 approach to seating a president/prime minister.
Judges rule!!!1!!
Posted by: spiiderweb on April 19, 2006 10:46 AMNo, in Italy the "Court of Appeal" only announced the offial results of the election, like it would have had to do anyway. It happened a little later than usual this time, because Duce Berlusconi, clinging to power with teeth and nails, had about 5000 contended votes re-evaluated, which could not have affected the results anyway, even if all of these 5000 had been pro-Berlusconi.
He probably hoped to be able to buy one of the minor partners of Prodi's middle-left coalition meanwhile.
Peter,
I wasn't being literal, but I stand corrected.

I know ... sorry, didn't mean to be schoolmasterly.
And Berlusconi surely was trying to adopt the US 2000 approach. Small wonder - once he's out of office he'll lose his immunity and face prosecution. Just to be on the safe side he's already bought a nice little estate in Switzerland.
By the way, interestingly the USA only acknowleged Prodi's victory today. Bush and Berlusconi - a true friendship. Well, the bonds between organized crime in Italy and the US have always been close.
