The Horror

When I learned that the Attorney General of the United States of America refused to appear under oath before the Senate, and that he refused to answer when asked if he knew of any “other anti-terrorism operations the Bush administration may be undertaking without court approval” in addition to the wiretapping, a chill went down my spine. It suddenly hit me how hard are these guys going to be willing to fight to stay in power in 2008.

They are breaking the law; they know they are breaking the law; they cannot, absolutely cannot, afford to let the Democrats win in 2008, because then their crimes will be investigated and prosecuted. Gonzalez’s option if the Republicans lose in 2008 is not a spot on K Street making $1 million a year, it’s a jail cell making license plates.

That’s a hell of an incentive plan. Human nature being what it is, it is not only possible that these guys will cheat in 2008, it is inevitable.

Somewhat fair point, TLL. I have updated the post to use more precise language about exactly what question Gonzalez ducked.

it worked in 2000 and 2004. Why the hell wouldn't they try it in 2008, regardless?
