And What Should We Call the Indian Affairs Committee?

Today’s edition of the Los Angeles Times editorializes by detailing another instance of Orwellian language in our political system.

That the United States Senate has a body called the Intelligence Committee is an irony George Orwell would have truly appreciated. In a world without Doublespeak, the panel, chaired by GOP Sen. Pat Roberts of Kansas, would be known by a more appropriate name — the Senate Coverup Committee.
The Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee does seem to be properly named, at least by its acronym — HELP!

One of the things that has depressed me most as a regular reader of the Federal Register is learning that the BIA's "Advisory Board for Exceptional Children" exists entirely to discuss children's disabilities:

Who looks after the children who show exceptional gifts, whether or not such children have disabilities as well? Does the BIA believe that exceptional ability occurs or is worth nurturing among children under its care?
