From a page straight out of Orwell’s 1984 comes this amazing story of the new “Mayberry RFD”. Read it, but put on your tinfoil hat first.

This will really change the way Joe Gunther operates, I guess:

Posted by: Joyful Alternative on January 19, 2006 9:46 AMHere in the UK, as you may know, we have more surveillance cameras than anywhere else in the world.
In London, most busses and tube carriages have at least three of them and you can’t walk down the average High Street without your every move being captured on camera.
Whilst they are no doubt great for identifying vandals and catching crime and criminals (provided you also invest heavily in the people to monitor the cameras) and providing great cheap TV entertainment when the highlights of the 'most embarrassing moments' are aired; their greatest achievements to date (apart from enabling the police to identify the tube bombers within a matter of days) seems to be catching the police red-handed telling lies about such trivial matters as executing innocent people - and lying through their back teeth about it - so maybe there is something to be said for all this police state surveillance.
It's a begining, but way to go until we can feel really secure.
