King Mohammed of Morocco apologized today to the thousands of people who were jailed, tortured and killed by his late father, King Hassan II. The despicable Hassan’s reign is now remembered by his suffering subjects as “The Years of Lead.”
In his apology, King Mohammed said, “I announce the comforting news, with the hope that the merciful angels will carry it to the soul of my venerated father and the hearts of all the victims, the persons who had been wronged and their families, that we have sympathy and solicitude for them.’’
You’d never know it from our own current experiment with the concept, but sometimes primogeniture works. Is it even remotely possible that Jenna the Merciful could one day succeed to the throne and—? Nah, forget it.
