Will Curiosity Kill the Cat?

Mrs. Batard just caught something on C-Span this morning that apparently hasn’t made its way into the blogosphere yet, so I'll pass it along. John McCain has a new book out touting heroes to children and good God Almighty, lookee there! The Republican has Darwin listed as a hero that children should look up to. I wonder how the faith based crowd will react to that? Jesus, I believe the sky is falling.

Awesome catch, double-B and madam. Chuck, maybe this one should be one on top all day long.

OK so McCain has a few brain cells that seem to work reasonably well, he's still a proud member of the wing-nuttery.

The post was not intended to glorify McCain, it was meant to show that perhaps the faith based crowd will be marginalized by the Republicans in the future — a good thing in my opinion.

I think we really shouldn't forget about His Noodly Goodness.

McCain is one of the few Republicans that, at least, has a slight grip on reality. After all, he has proposed to do something, at least something, about global warming. Not enough, of course. But at least he doesn't deny its existance.

Why is it that every time there's good news about McCain, it's immediately followed up with bad news? Like this, for example: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/10/10/AR2005101001509.html

Um, why did he say he supported Intellegent Design creationism then?

Jason beat me to it. When one of the few Republicans with an at least tenuous grasp on reality endorses creationism, the faith based crowd is still very strong. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if in the chapter on Darwin, McCain tries to say that people like Dembski and Behe are modern-day Darwins.

I also find the "brave or cowardly, kind or cruel" bit (admittedly, not a direct quote from McCain) ironic coming from the coward who voted for cruel torture enthusiast Alberto Gonzales as Attorney General.

Basically, I think McCain is a smart politician, as opposed to most of his fellow Republicans. He can't be bribed as easily, though he was a Keating Five member. But he's just positioning himself for another run at the Presidency. Why, for example, did he cosy up to the candidate whose operation had called him a crazy adulterer? Because he can't afford to write off the entire party. Same reason he buys the ID BS. He's not nearly as principled as he likes people to think; that's just his shtick. IMHO.
