Al-Jazeera Gets a Marine

Mrs. Batard sent me this story from USA Today. I don’t know what to make of it. I suspect that he won’t be any better or worse than Judith Miller. I looked for an alternative version on Google, but none of the stories up so far say what I’m thinking so this one will have to do for now. The Rumsfeld quote was interesting, I had never seen it before. Seems like the only news that we get on US television are stories that play over and over and over again, so I’m quite familiar with what Rumsfeld is talking about, although I’ve never watched Al-Jazeera.

Marine officers are taught to think ahead. So Josh Rushing, a captain in the Corps until last October, anticipated the unpleasant questions.

Rushing, 33, has taken a job reporting for a new channel for Al-Jazeera. That’s the Qatar-based network that Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said is “perfectly willing to lie to the world” and has “a pattern of playing propaganda over and over and over again&rdquo for its 50 million viewers, most of them in the Arab world.
